EcoStud LEED Submittal (Click and be directed to site)
EcoStud is manufactured from 100% post industrial waste. Materials and Resources credits MR 4.1 Recycled content: 10% and MR 4.2 Recycled content 20% pertain to this product.
EcoStud, being of recycled resin provides a superior thermal break when compared to steel. This factor greatly enhances the effective insulation value thereby saving energy. When used as a system with a spray applied closed cell foam it provides greater than R-20 in 3" this attribute will save energy by providing high R-value as well as a sealer structure. Energy & Atmosphere credit EA1. Optimizing Energy Performance are applicable.
EcoStud being made of 100% recycled resin providesa thermal break in your furring system. EcoStud's thermal conductivity is about .19 W/mK and when compared with the carbon steel typically used in metal Z-furring or steel studs that has a thermal conductivityof 43.0 it is 226 times more effectiveat preventing the heat transferthat creates energy loss. This is a very significant factor when rating the thermal efficiency of a building. In fact the extreme heat transmission of steel studs or Z-Furring mandates that a continuous exterior insulating sheathing be fastened to the outside of the studs. Cavity wall insulation of R-19 becomes an overall R-8 when installed between steel studs.
EcoStud's weight significantly less than steel or wood; 3.5 pounds compared to 7 to 8 pounds per piece. Because they nest in shipping, two studs can be shipped instead of one in the same cubic area. These factors reduce freight costs and energy used significantly. Alternative Transportation credits SS4.1 thru SS4.4 may apply. Reduced freight costs and fewer freight deliveries may be used to obtain an innovation point for exemplary performance in this particular LEED section.
When the product is being cut and assembled on the job it creates less dust, and if cut using a shear it creates zero dust. This promotes a healthier work enviroment. This feature can be directly relatedto Sustainable Sites prerequisite 1 - Construction Activity Pollution Prevention.
EcoStud is inherently mold and mildew resistant and provides a healthier living enviroment.
When used in a flood prone enviroment the system will be able to be salvaged after flood damage with just the drywall needing to be replaced. If waterproof drywall is used simply wash the building and let dry. This will significantly reduce resources and energy used when rebuilding/recovering from flood damage.
Materials & Resources credits 5.1 and 5.2 - Regional Materials: 10% & 20% Extracted, Processed & Manufactured Regionally may be used if the product is constructed with 500 miles of Montville, Ohio.
EcoStud may qualify for additional LEED points in the Innovation in Design category due to the innovative combination of eco-friendly product traits.
